COMPAC SPACE VANE AXIAL FAN SYSTEMS

Inlet Flow Concentrator/Silencer

The inlet flow concentrator/silencer is computer designed to optimize aerodynamics and acoustics, offering both aerodynamic and absorptive insertion losses. The inlet air is gradually accelerated to the fan's annular velocity without causing turbulence or flow separation.

The air is uniformly guided at a perpendicular angle to the fan annulus area. It's central pod is dimensionally matched to the fan hub, minimizing impact losses at the fan hub.

Various internal flow shaping devices are used to assure uniform air velocity across all coils and filters. A resonator is provided at the fan intake, tuned to the fan's blade passage frequency.

The inlet flow concentrator/silencer can be supplied in various configurations:
• In-line (axial) flow type with one rectangular inlet.
• Radial type with one, two, three or four sided rectangular inlet(s)

Cross sectional view of a three sided, radial inlet flow concentrator for a 125,000 cfm capacity vertical downblast system. Its dimensions are 6' high x 14' long x 14' wide. Cooling coils with drain pans and filters are mounted onto three sides of the flow concentrator. The fan is mounted on a roll-out carriage assembly and is located immediately below the silencer discharge.

Details of a three-sided radial inlet flow concentrator for a 95,000 cfm capacity fan system integrating multiple flow shaping devices. The flow concentrator is of an asymmetrical shape and its dimensions are 8' high x 7' long x 6.5' wide. This special design of the inlet concentrator results in uniform flow across all filters and coils, and also achieves uniform loading onto the fan blades.

Construction:
• Welded structural steel tubing and angle frames.
• 18-gauge galvanized steel outer skin.
• 20 to 22 gauge galvanized perforated inside skin (Optional: Available in 304 stainless steel.)
• A flexible liner with erosion resistant at velocities up to 6,000 fpm) mat-faced fibreglass insulation.
• The liner is immediately behind the perforated inside skin.
• Carefully packed fibreglass acoustical fill is behind it.

 in-line type flow concentrator/silencer

Intake side of an in-line type flow concentrator silencer with 70,000 cfm capacity. Its dimensions are 6'high x 5'Iong x 8'wide and incorporates multiple layers of splitters, transition from rectangular to round cross section for fan connection, and transition pod to the fan hub. Alternately, a single layer of splitters are provided where fan sound power levels are low (such as return fan systems). This design achieves uniform air velocity at the flow concentrator intake and as such can be placed within three feet of the coils for draw-through svstems.

Optional: Packless silencers for those applications where fibreglass filling is not desirable and cleaning is required; for example, biomedical systems and high temperature applications. Packless silencers use perforated inside skin of 304 stainless steel construction with single or multi-layered screens of 304 stainless steel, located immidiately behind it. M&I's packless silencers have been tested to have acoustical performance similar to those of fibreglass filled silencers.
Figure 6A outlines the measured transmission loss of various silencers.
